Daniels AFM8 with K1S Positioner

    The days of using solder on connectors are just about gone. Most manufacturers of avionics equipment today use mechanically crimped pins and sockets for avionics equipment connectors. The methods are typically the same for most pins and sockets but can vary with the kind of tools used to crimp. Shown is a common cannon plug type socket being crimped using a Daniels AFM8 crimper and Daniels K1S positioner

	The proper tools are gathered. Daniels AFM8 Wire strippers 26-16awg Snap On flush cut dikes K1S Positioner
	The Daniels AFM8 can be used with many different positioners to accommodate a wide range of pins and sockets.
	Strip the wire to be crimped enough to fit inside the barrel of the socket. The barrel is the end with the colored stripes.
	Ensure the wire is fully inserted into the contact socket.
	Find the proper setting on the positioner and rotate the crimp setting on the Daniels crimper for the wire size being used.
	With the K1S positioner installed on the Daniels AFM8, insert the socket and wire into the crimper. With the Daniels set at the proper crimp position, squeeze the handles until the ratcheting action stops and release.
	Remove the crimped socket. Inspect the barrel for proper crimp by verifying four indents evenly spaced around the barrel and wire is visible through the inspection hole of the barrel.
